A TAVISTOCK goalie made a 'phenomenal' achievement last week when he played his 600th game for the town's football club. Andy Meeds, 37, (pictured right) is the first player ever to achieve the record number of games played for Tavistock Football Club. Andy's 600th game saw him and his team-mates play last Saturday against Witheridge. And although it resulted in a 7-2 win to the opposition the day was still a celebration for the team to commemorate Andy's dedication to the club he has played for since he was 18. Club physiotherapist Dave Chanter, a former Tavistock player himself and who played at a higher level with clubs such as Northwich Victoria and Aberystwyth, praised Andy for his superb achievement. 'This is a phenomenal achievement — no other player has achieved this,' said Dave. 'Loyalty is a forgotten word in the vocabulary of football with players representing a myriad of clubs in their career. 'However, Mido is that rare breed who has been a pillar for Tavistock over the past two decades and his achievement in reaching this milestone bears testament to his loyalty, longevity and ability. 'During his long career he has displayed a remarkable consistency and this has been rewarded by recognition in representing the Forces and Devon County on numerous occasions. Unsurprisingly, his current form has seen him selected for Devon this season. 'Without doubt when eventually he does decide to retire, Tavistock Football Club will find it extremely difficult to fill the void.' After the game, players and supporters took to the Red and Black Club to congratulate Andy on his milestone.
