DEVON County Council has confirmed that the A390 at Gulworthy will remain closed ’until repairs have been undertaken’, after a major tractor fire damaged the road surface yesterday (Thursday, July 22).

Fire crews were called to the large scale fire on the A390 between Gulworthy roundabout and the entrance to the Tamar Trails, where a tractor, trailer and part of the hedgerow were well alight.

It was reported that the blaze had ’melted’ the surface of the road.

A spokesperson for Devon County Council said: ’The road has been closed following the damage caused to its surface by the tractor fire.

’We’re currently assessing the site but it will remain closed until repairs have been undertaken, which we’re hoping to carry out early next week.’

A diversion is currently in place through Lamerton.
