A FAMILY of five were evacuated from a property in Lifton following a suspected gas leak last Sunday.
Firefighters from Tavistock and Launceston attended shortly after 7am after a call from police to say that people had been evacuated from the property.
Firefighters wore breathing apparatus in the property and found relatively high levels of carbon monoxide coming from an oil fired boiler in the garage.
A spokesperson from Tavistock Fire Station said: ‘A family of five were checked over by paramedics following the incident.
‘The outcome of this incident could have been so different if they hadn’t had a carbon monoxide alarm.’
In the past week, firefighters from Tavistock have also attended a road traffic accident at Lamerton, fire alarms in a residential block in Whitchurch Road, a small fire at Princetown Primary School with Princetown and Yelverton appliances and a deliberate fire in the public toilets opposite the Spar shop adjacent to Abbey Bridge.
