LEWTRENCHARD Primary School's garden pond has taken on a new lease of life thanks to South West Lakes Conservation Trust.

The pond, which was described as 'tired looking', had weeds and rubble, which had built up over the past ten years, removed by the children, assisted by conservation rangers Stuart Ross, Alasdair Hempenstall and cleaner future ranger Bruce Hosie.

Headteacher Keith Urro said it was 'wonderful' that a local charity could bring something to the community. 'The children will take great pleasure out of learning about the rich and varied wildlife that can be found around a garden pond,' he said.

While the pond was being reconstructed over two days, the trust's education officer Liz Eagle helped pupils identify wildlife found.
