CALSTOCK Footpath Society has arranged an informative moorland discovery walk of five miles, visiting the Vitifer Mine, worked from 1750 to 1925, Headland Warren, Hookney Tor and the Bronze Age village of Grimspound.
The route will also include Challacombe Hamlet and Gold Dagger Mine where a bronze dagger was unearthed. The walk, led by Joan Deacon, is mainly on bridle paths, no stiles and two ascents. Strong shoes or boots are recommended and wear suitable clothing.
Meet on Sunday July 31 at 11am at the King's Oven car park (SX 675810) just past the Warren House Inn on the Princetown to Moretonhapstead road. It is also possible to use the 'quarry' adjacent to the inn. This walk is unsuitable for dogs.
