This year the group went back to the Lord Mayor Treloar College at Alton, which is specially designed to cater for disabled groups. Fifteen MD sufferers and 22 volunteer helpers attended the eight-day vacation.
Trips included Portsmouth Historic Harbour, Marwell Wildlife Park and shopping in Basingstoke and Alton. There were video evenings, swimming sessions, a cinema trip, games evenings, treasure trails and scavenger hunts.
The theme for the holiday was school days with a fancy dress party on the final night involving volunteer helpers entertaining the guests with their interpretation of ?Grease?.
For 35 years the Tavistock Muscular Dystrophy Holiday has been sending youngsters on holiday, giving them the opportunity to socialise and enjoy all the many things so many of us take for granted. At the same time it provides much-needed respite care for families of sufferers.
The Tavistock group is grateful to the people of Tavistock for their generous support but is looking for additional sources of financial assistance as lottery funding to help meet the costs of the trip will not be available next year.
Anyone who wants to help or become a volunteer should call branch chairman Alison Carreck on 01822 810868.
