FUNDS raised at the Harrowbarrow and Metherell Christmas Fair this Sunday (December 16) will go towards the development of a community orchard in the villages.

A wide range of Tamar Valley crafts and foods, including jewellery, Christmas decorations and wreaths will be on offer and organisations such as Tamar Grow Local and the Bridge Gallery will also have goods from their range on sale.

Harrowbarrow and Metherell's community orchard, located opposite St Dominick Park, is already in development with the first traditional Tamar Valley varieties of apple trees planted.

The orchard also houses bees and for a few months of the year, the village's 'Pig Society', a group of pigs raised for pork and cared for by a group of villagers.

Eventually, the orchard will be a community space for everyone to enjoy with a range of events taking place throughout the year to encourage learning about the Tamar Valley's growing heritage as well as practical skills such as bee keeping, hedge laying and orchard management.

The Christmas Fair will be taking place at Harrowbarrow and Metherell Village Hall between 11am and 4pm and is free to attend. Light refreshments will be available.
