I wholeheartedly agree with the comments raised by Denise Langsford (Letters, August 23). The churchyard at Lewtrenchard has at times looked in a pretty sorry state. Actions speak volumes.
The fact that families have to tend to their own loved ones' graves just highlights the fact that the churchyard has been neglected. I am also a frequent visitor to the church and I have a loved one buried there.
Myself and at least two other people I'm aware of have made very generous retiring collections when family funerals have taken place there as well as a substantial donation to the church.
Ms Valerie A Kimsey (Letters, September 6) has missed the point Mrs Langsford was trying to make. This is a very emotive and important issue to families and seeing their loved ones graves in such a condition is upsetting. Nothing can be done about it unless people are made aware of the situation. Hopefully this has now been done.
