THE legendary Cyril Tawney will be singing, strumming his guitar and regaling the audience with his nautical tales on Sunday.
He is the guest artist at Folk on the Moor ? a folk club that meets regularly at the Moorland Hotel, Wotter.
Getting this performer is a major coup for the club. Cyril was instrumental in developing the folk song movement in the South West of England where he made a special study of the region?s traditional song collection. The material was presented to a wider public by means of a recording career which began as early as 1960.
Cyril?s professional career has in fact been concurrent with the advent, growth and establishment of Britain?s folk club and folk festival scene. He has sung at every major venue in Britain and has been heard on every national radio network.
Cyril?s broadcasting career began on Christmas Day 1957 when he was still a serving sailor. Further radio and TV work followed which prompted Cyril to buy himself out of the RN in 1959 and become a Plymouth-based full time professional.
With a string of albums and books to his name Cyril is not only the living definition of the folk stalwart, he is also an absolutely unmissable performer with gigs that are guaranteed always to be lively.
The Sunday concert starts at 8pm.
