Braveheart Award for lovely Willow
Our Braveheart Award this July goes to Willow.
Willow was rushed to us as an emergency following a road traffic accident (RTA) after getting spooked and running into the road on a dog walk.
The nursing team immediately triaged Willow and determined that she wasn’t in a state of shock, however she was very painful and unable to stand up, so a strong painkiller injection was given.
Vet Max then assessed her and performed a FAST (focused assessment of trauma) scan to determine that there was no significant bleeding or immediately life-threatening injuries.
X-rays were then taken of the spine, chest and pelvis where thankfully no significant injuries were seen.
It was decided to give Willow more pain relief and let her relax on her own in a kennel to reduce stress.
The team know Willow well and knew how stressed she could get, having been at the vets just a few weeks before for a dental!
By the end of the day the team were relieved to find that Willow could stand up on her own and gingerly walk a few steps.
It was decided to keep her in overnight to give her more pain relief before sending her home the next day.
Willow is now doing well at home although she is still a little stiff and uncomfortable from the trauma.
She is now receiving physio and is on anti-inflammatories, although she sometimes refuses to take them!
