OKEHAMPTON’S annual Remembrance Sunday Parade will take place on Sunday, November 13.
Contingents, led by the Royal British Legion, will depart at 10.30am from the town hall in Fore Street to march to All Saints Parish Church.
A short ceremony will be held at the Okehampton War Memorial when the Roll of Honour of the two world wars and the more recent war in Afghanistan will be called by the town mayor. This will be followed by the sounding of the Last Post and Reveille and two minutes’ silence.
Immediately after the war memorial ceremony, the actual Service of Remembrance will be held in the Parish Church, ending with the march back to the town centre.
The Royal British Legion is the Nation’s custodian of Remembrance. The Legion’s Okehampton Branch, therefore, invites all Legion members as well as serving and ex-servicemen and women to join the Legion’s contingent on this annual occasion to pay homage to the fallen. It is also hoped that the people of Okehampton will again, as in previous years, be out in force to show their support for this national day of remembrance.
Further details can be obtained from the Okehampton branch secretary on 01837 840757.
