WITH superfast fibre being rolled out from the BT telephone exchanges in West Devon this year, a councillor is appealing for internet users to get on-line to help boost the spread of its impact.
Tavistock Town and West Devon Borough Councillor John Sheldon said that those using the Tavistock, Okehampton and Yelverton telephone exchanges are due to benefit, but not all BT green cabinets will be connected via fibre optic cable.
Cllr Sheldon told the Times: 'This roll-out is based on commercial viability and is not funded, it is part of a BT investment programme.
'To have the very best chance of having the opportunity of connecting to superfast broadband — more than 24 Mbps — it is necessary to register interest.
'This will indicate that a cabinet is worthy of being connected to fibre and the likely amount of connections required.
'Being interested after these decisions are made, or waiting to see any physically activity from Openreach installing the network will be too late. Getting no fibre to or not getting enough connections provided from your local cabinet is quite possible.'
He thanked all those who have already registered as he says they have undoubtedly helped play their part in bringing superfast fibre connections to the area.
Cllr Sheldon added: 'I do not want to see disappointment and to lessen this http://www.superfast.me.uk">www.superfast.me.uk was set up to enable easy registration without obligation.
'You can also check to see if your telephone line is estimated to get superfast broadband, there is a database check to see if you are connected to one of the above exchanges.'
