OKEHAMPTON Excelsior Silver Band have just completed a busy August which included a visit from their German partner band and a number of performances.
The Wesseling Band from Germany enjoyed a week long visit to West Devon, with both bands playing at Ilfracombe and a joint concert to a large audience in the Charter Hall, Okehampton.
The Wesseling Band also gave a two-hour concert in Red Lion Yard. The good weather and a full programme of social events ensured the friends from Germany had an enjoyable visit.
On the day they left Okehampton, the Excelsior Silver Band went off to Tintagel to play at the town?s carnival, and then on the next day to Newton Abbot to play in the bandstand in Courtney Park. The band also played a mini concert at Okehampton Show, and performed at Moretonhampstead Carnival.
The band rely on their own fundraising events, collections and donations from their supporters? club and other local organisations for the cost of instruments, music and uniforms, and are grateful to all the many people who support them.
New members are always welcome, so any brass players who would like to join can find out more by phoning the band secretary Julie Hood on 01837 52806 or visiting the band website, http://www.okehamptonband.co.uk">www.okehamptonband.co.uk
