EDDIE Jones has written a few records in the Belstone books over the years but last Sunday he excelled himself with a remarkable double century at Cheriton Fitzpaine.
Even though five Belstonians recorded ducks the visitors still reached a 40 over total of 289 for eight thanks to Jones who carried his bat for a career best 203 not out, including 20 fours and 15 sixes.
This becomes the highest individual score made for the club, easily beating his previous record of 133 scored last season against Shaldon.
Good support came from Martin Kuhn who contributed 42 runs in a second wicket partnership of 124 (the second highest recorded for this wicket), and Rob Sandercock who made 29 in a new fifth wicket record partnership of 99.
All the home bowlers came under attack from Jones? powerful stroke-play with Mason emerging with the best figures of three for 26.
Although Bowles made a useful 41 for Cheriton Fitzpaine the result was never in much doubt, especially when the irrepressible Jones capped an exceptional all-round performance by snapping up two catches and rattling through the tail with four clean bowled victims at a cost of just four runs to leave Belstone the winners by a mere 209 runs.
Last week?s paper gave the scorecard for Belstone?s game against Mount Edgecumbe including bowling figures for Pete Gross of two overs, five wickets for three runs.
Mention should be made that this included a hat-trick (in only his second game for the club), only the second time this feat has been achieved by a Belstone player.
This Sunday Belstone entertain Manaton in the South Devon League, followed on Tuesday evening by the first of this season?s 20 over Buckley Cup games against Spreyton.
