IN commemoration of the Brownie centenary this year, young members of the Tavy Division were asked to design two new badges.
The Brownies were tasked to design two badges — one to wear on uniforms and one to embellish 'neckers', the raspberry-coloured triangular scarves given to all local Girlguiding members to wear when participating in parades and other public occasions.
The uniform badge winner, Lauren Bucket, from 3rd Tavistock Brownie Pack, produced a circular badge with Brownies singing around a campfire to win her prize of a Brownie picture frame.
The 'necker' badge winners were Rose Griffiths and Isobelle Hattan from 1st Yelverton Brownies. Both girls came up with similar designs which the judges decided would merge well to make one exciting badge.
Janet Piper, Tavy Division's senior section leader, said: 'The standard of badge designs was excellent, with some amusing ideas on what the Brownies enjoyed most about their centenary year and making the decision for my team of judges, Ailish Piper, Di Dingle and Rebecca Olver, very difficult indeed.'
Rose and Isobelle, whose winning badge designs showed figures representing every section of Girlguiding UK — Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Young Leaders, Adult Leaders and Trefoil Guild members — were also presented with picture frames as prizes.
All three girls were able to see their designs transformed into embroidered badges and presented to every member of the Division.
