Out and about
I really enjoy getting out in the constituency — here's an overview of a recent Friday and Saturday.
Friday: Visit Grey Matter, an impressive software-based business in Ashburton. Then to Adaero Precision Components in Crediton, a very impressive business providing opportunities for local people wishing to acquire new skills. Then to Tailored and Mat Supplies in North Tawton, another company doing very well with a rapidly expanding order book.
Then Tedburn St Mary Primary School to discuss the potential re-opening of the pre-school. Then Cheriton Fitzpaine Primary to tour the new buildings — a result of years of campaigning by parents and teachers. I first visited the cramped old school seven years ago — the contrast is striking.
Then Copplestone to meet councilors and discuss our campaign to stop the potential closure of Tarka Line stations. Then an MP's advice surgery in Crediton followed by another in Yeoford. Then speaking at a dinner at the excellent Thelbridge Cross Inn.
On Saturday I visited the new Exminster market. Then a canvass in South Knighton followed by a meeting with the owner of the Halfway Inn pub to discuss my campaign to reduce duty rates for pubs.
Then Liverton where I drop in for a brief chat with the postmistress. Then Chudleigh to present a Sports England cheque to the cricket club and to Moretonhampstead to present another cheque to the swimming pool. Then Chagford for a canvass — then Okehampton for another advice surgery. Then Room 13 a great local youth club where I joined in with their 'Saturday Kitchen Vibes' session and gave out cooking award certificates.
It was great to see some of the young people who had visited me in Westminster recently to discuss youth issues and to join them for the excellent meal they prepared.
