Kenn v Whitchurch

WHITCHURCH travelled to Kenn on Saturday looking to continue their climb up the E division table, but their progress was checked by the weather.

The game started at the scheduled time with Whitchurch in the familiar position of batting first, having lost the toss.

Mansfield and Hall ensured a good start, with a 52 partnership for the first wicket before Mansfield was caught for 39. Accurate bowling from Wonnacott on a pitch with variable bounce restricted Whitchurch for the next 20 overs, Wonnacott finishing his spell with 4 for 26,

Chappell batted patiently to contribute a valuable 38 before falling victim to Fowler slow spinners. Fowler taking 3 -22.21 from Aggiss near the end meant Whitchurch posted a total of 146, being bowled out in just 42 overs.

After the interval, the weather began to close in, making conditions treacherous for batting and bowling.

Play was suspended for half an hour with Kenn on 21 for 0.

After the stoppage Mansfield took two wickets to reduce the home side to 32-2. Another squall passed over, making progress difficult, so the captains called it a day, Whitchurch taking 9 points from the game.

All other cricket for Whitchurch has been rained off. This weekend, the club have four fixtures scheduled. The first XI entertain league newcomers Lustleigh on Saturday, while the seconds travel to Gunnislake.

On Sunday, Plymouth Citybus CC are the visitors and then on Monday, Newton St Cyres visit in the Devon League.
