Okehampton Cup

Okehampton Argyle 2nds 7

Morchard Bishop 2

OKEHAMPTON will meet Halwill next Sunday in the next round of the cup after this convincing victory.

The visitors took the lead with their first attack after some sloppy defending.

Guy Carver levelled for Okehampton with a calmly placed side-foot effort and Steve Williams gave the home side the lead with scrambled effort after good work from Tim Shaw and Lee Gilbert.

Morchard then equalised with a fine near-post header from a good right-side cross.

Lee Carey then restored Okehampton's lead with a powerful run through the visitors' defence, rounding the keeper and tapping home.

Okehampton were dominating and a fine long-range ball from Chris Dearing found Tim Shaw who finished coolly.

Okehampton were then awarded two penalties within a five-minute spell and Sean Sandercock tucked both away — the second had to be retaken for encroachment after he had blazed over the bar with his first effort.

Chris Dearing completed the rout with a low drive on the edge of the box through a ruck of players to seal the victory.

Sunday away to Halwill, 2pm kick-off.

Devon & Exeter Intermediate 1

Okehampton Argyle 2nds 1

OKEHAMPTON suffered a second successive defeat on the trot but it could have been so different had chances been taken.

Early play saw both keepers in action with Okehampton's defence looking capable of controlling the home attack.

University took the lead against the run of play with a speculative cross beating Sean Sandercock's outstretched fingers.

Okehampton then kept the home side under pressure with close efforts from Guy Carver and Tim Shaw.

The second half became a different story with the home side looking more menacing going forward and in a 15 minute spell, they scored three quick goals.

Okehampton played to their full passing potential and tore the home defence apart with a finish from Tim Shaw but it was all too late.

Saturday away to Honiton, Intermediate Cup, 2pm kick-off.
