FIREFIGHTERS had an unusual call out last Wednesday as they tackled a paperbank fire.

One appliance from Okehampton Fire Station was initially mobilised to a report of a paperbank on fire in the Waitrose Car Park at around 5.25pm.

Upon arrival, the contents of the paperbank were well alight. The officer in charge requested further resources and another appliance was mobilised from the station.

The contents of the paperbank were severely damaged, and were once the flames had been extinguished.

Firefighters used two hose reel jets and a water shuttle from a nearby hydrant in the process.

It is not yet know what caused the fire.
