PUPILS at Lydford Primary School have been having fun exploring the arts and culture of Brazil as part of their annual arts week. They started the week by cooking Brazilian snacks and sweets and making group collages of Amazonian animals. Next they listened to traditional Brazilian folktales and created their own plays which they performed to each other. After studying the work of Brazilian artist Tarsila Schubert, they painted their own pictures in the same style. On the Thursday the children worked with professional dancer Karina Gracia to learn how to Samba dance. They also used percussion instruments to create a Samba band. Feathers and all things shiny were used to create Mardi Gras carnival masks. The week was rounded off with some football skills and a mini 'world cup' tournament.
