DESPITE the poor weather Tavistock Juniors have enjoyed huge success on the golf course. The league team continued their excellent winning streak beating Staddon Heights, Yelverton, Thurlestone and Dartmouth to finish 2nd in the league. The winners this year were Dartmouth.
The top four in the league then met at Teign Valley Golf Club to battle for the new Championship Day Trophy. Tavistock played Elfordleigh and won 4-1 to take them through to the final where they met Yelverton.
This was a hard fought match with Tavistock winning 3-2.
Tavistock Golf Club welcomed the Devon County Junior Golf Society on August 26 which saw more than 100 juniors from all over Devon competing for the prizes.
This was another successful day for Tavistock Juniors with 12 year olds Adam Burbidge and Chris Gawman winning the foursomes prize, 13 year old Matt Hulbert claiming the net prize with an incredible net 61. Peter Stevenson from Thurlestone broke the junior gross course record with a score of 71, which also won the scratch prize.
Luke Wakley, 13, enjoyed a bumper month in August winning the mens? 36 hole Medal, the John Morris Rover Qualifier and the President?s Day junior prize and has seen his handicap cut by 5 shots, he now plays off 14.
Euan McCall battled through wind and heavy rain to win the August stableford with Edward Smith taking 2nd prize. The September stableford competition was won by Edward Smith who just beat his brother Mark.
Juniors turned out for an early start on Sunday to take part in the Frank White 36 hole medal. The winner was Sam Webster with a net of 141 and the runner up was Adam Waddle with a net 138.
