Drake’s Auctions are marking the close of another successful jewellery and collectables auction. There were 504 registered bidders competing for lots on auction day which resulted in lots shipped to happy customers worldwide. Winning bidders hailed from Australia, U.S.A, Middle East, Asia, Europe, not forgetting the UK and local buyers who come out in force for every specialist sale.

With 739 lots in total, over 400 of these were; fine jewellery, coins, silverware and watches. Top sellers included 18ct white gold and diamond line bracelet which sold for £3,200. Gold coins featured heavily with a Royal Mint UK 1980 Gold Sovereign proof set that realised £2,700 and 1974 South Africa full Krugerrand reaching £1,375 also sold were spade Guineas and a good selection of gold sovereigns. One of the front runners in the silver section was a rare Georgian silver seven-bar concertina toast rack, maker- Samuel Roberts, George Cadman & Co. which reached £450.

Other highlights of this auction were classic vehicles. A 1924 Morris Cowley Bullnose or Daisy as she was affectionately known sold to an enthusiast for £7,000 and a classic 1952 Francis Barnett motorcycle sold for £1,050.

There was competitive bidding on a vintage glass Super Shell glass petrol pump globe which saw the hammer fall at an impressive £860.

The June auction at the Sticklepath Saleroom set records for bidder numbers and prices achieved – it was, in all honesty a cracker!

The hammer and humour of Ann Thorp as always won the day, a fast paced auction that attracted bidders from overseas, on the telephone and in the room. Dartmoor Auctions always has a war welcome for all bidders – don’t sit near the front you may get called out! Ask Mr Lobster and Mr Badger (and Mr Pike who brought his own form of entertainment!) What a day full of characters – certainly worth a day out.

Highlights of the sale were a wonderful set of Hilaire Belloc books at £160 hammer price, a fantastic set of bookcases – hammer £50 (a bargain!), some of the gold and silver pieces, an amazing set of green apothecary bottles with original stoppers and labels hammer £340

Eldreds summer sale of antiques & art, silver, gold, jewellery & watches on Tuesday 25th July includes a large collection of commemorative gold coins, the majority issued by the Royal Mint, including UK proof sovereigns and other denomination coins, sovereign three-coin sets and a 1928 USA gold Saint Gaudens $20 double-eagle, estimated at £1,400-1,600.

A glistening jewellery section will include several rings of note, including a pink sapphire, a blue diamond, a large Tanzanite dress ring and an emerald ring formed in the shape of a daisy. A gem-set ‘rainbow’ tennis bracelet is already generating interest, as is a very pretty necklace formed of graduated gold flowers. An interesting set of Luckenbooth jewellery consisting of brooch with large citrine heart surmounted by gold and seed pearl crown has a pair of matching very wearable small earrings in the same design and a high-carat gold snake arm bangle with inset ruby eyes will be a popular lot. Watches in the sale will include two vintage Rolex Oyster Precision gentlemen’s wrist watches and an unusual very slim pocket watch with two-tone gold watch chain.

Other sections of the sale will include antique furniture, paintings, clocks, ceramics, glass and works of art.
