LAST weekend saw a bumper number of Bat's taking part in two popular road races.
The first was the Ivybridge 10k. This spectacularly scenic race starts in Ivybridge Station Car Park and finishes at Ivybridge Rugby Club. The course is relatively fast, despite the steep hill from Bittaford to Moorhaven. The last 6km of the route are almost all downhill, making for a fast second half of the race.
The all-female contingent for Bat's included some members who had not raced for some time (Julie, Sue Collins and Bridget), Pam who was running her first race since the London Marathon and one Bat, Sue Catto who ran both the races at the weekend.
The second race of the weekend was the Bideford 10K which is a popular run between Bideford and Instow, returning alongside the River Torridge on the Tarka Trail and although overcast with the threat of rain in the air, the race was extremely warm.
There were eight Bat's running the race. Making their race debut for the club was Derek Hicks, Rebecca Sargent and Phil Megicks who all ran really great times. Making a welcome return to the race calendar after ten months of injury was Dotty Allan.
First male Bat was Derek who was chased home by both Phil and Ralph. First lady home was Kathy Williams who ran a brilliant time and was closely followed by Jane Page.
