A WEST Devon cake-maker won a national competition for her delicious design, which she made specially for a young boy with cancer.
Lisa Dashper, who owns Tavistock-based cake company Sugar Sweet Cakes, beat 89 other entries from across the UK with 1,157 votes in the competition run by Classikool — suppliers of cake stands and baking supplies.
Lisa said: 'I won a 10 tiered cake stand, but more importantly through this competition, I was able to raise awareness and campaign for donations to the charity CLIC Sargent.'
Lisa made the cake, which featured Dennis the Menace, for a young boy from Gulworthy named Charlie Hoskins to celebrate his eighth birthday.
'Charlie was very specific about what kind of cake he wanted.
'He was really pleased with how it turned out.
'Earlier this year Charlie was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma and has spent many months in and out of both Derriford Hospital and Bristol Hospital, receiving treatment, including chemotherapy.
'During this time Charlie and his family have received valuable support from the charity CLIC Sargent.
'This charity does an amazing job helping families who have children suffering with cancer — they provide a range of services, including family care and support, financial support, holidays. play specialists and so much more.'
