AN Okehampton-based theatre company is preparing for its most ambitious project to date — but needs help from the community to raise funds.

The project is a collaboration between Get Changed and Castle Drogo, to illustrate life at the castle pre 1914 and expand the skills and experience of the participants in a new and challenging performance arena.

The Okehampton Lions and Okehampton Round Table have awarded £100 and £250 respectively to kick start the fundraising push.

This entirely new site-specific work encompasses a series of 'immersive' theatre experiences for audiences as they journey, on foot, around the castle during the National Trust high season 2014.

Using both indoor and outdoor spaces, tableaux and scenes will be created to illustrate life at the castle.

Castle artefacts, family stories and local history from the surrounding area of Drewsteignton and Chagford will be used to bring Drogo characters alive and to tell their remarkable stories alongside that of the castle itself.

Theatre chairperson Christine Munkenbeck said: 'We are very excited about this forthcoming adventure and it will be wonderful to work in a very different theatre space to that of which Get Changed is used to.'

The project has been developed to take the learning disabled cast of Get Changed on a challenging theatrical journey and extend the scope of the company's drama and arts experience in the community.

The group is working in partnership with the castle's community engagement officer and is currently writing funding applications to raise the money needed for the project.

Christine said: 'We would be very interested to hear from any organisations, individuals or companies who might be interested in sponsoring or fundraising to help Get Changed to reach its target for this project.'
