South Devon Herald cup
Chagford 5
Kingsbridge and Kellaton United 1
CHAGFORD came through a potentially difficult first tie against lower division opponents with credit and a few goals.
The visitors also drew praise for, despite being a young side, they continued to play and battle to the very end.
Despite overall superiority, it took the Moormen some 41 minutes to open the scoring with Jerome Whatley's fine finish. There still remained enough time before the break for man of the match Mike Wright to score his first goal in Chagford colours.
The effect of the two late strikes was noticeable, in relief as the players left the field and in their raised standards of the second half.
Once they had settled again, Chagford were to score twice more to put the game beyond their opponents.
Robbie Miller scored on 55 minutes and then Andrew Davis, who had come on for the injured Botham at half-time, scored the fourth just nine minutes later.
The visitors pulled a goal back in the 85th minute, Chris Kingwell lobbing home goalkeeper Stuart Wills but not before Stuart Potter had somehow headed over Miller's low cross from six yards out.
It was left to Chagford midfielder Dale Chadwick to complete the scoring with a strong drive at the end.
