THERE is an opportunity to flex your creative muscles at a special course of acting workshops being held in West Devon next month.
Transitions Theatre Company is inviting people aged 18 and over to take part in a series of skills-based drama workshops at the Ockment Community Centre, Okehampton.
Starting on Thursday March 1 from 7pm to 9.30pm, participants will have the chance to realise their dramatic ability while being taught invaluable stagecraft techniques by skilled and experienced drama practitioners Nigel Crabb and Rob Pudner (pictured right).
Together, they have over 60 years' experience of inspiring, enthusing, enriching and educating the old and young alike and have vast experience of directing and producing community and youth theatre productions.
The cost of the five-week block is £50, which includes materials and refreshments. Following completion of the block of sessions all participants will be given the opportunity to audition for an outdoor production of Alan Ayckbourn's 'Round and Round the Garden' which has already been booked by a number of Devon venues starting in June, including Sterts at Upton Cross and Hatherleigh Festival.
Auditions will take place on Sunday, April 1 also at the Ockment Community Centre.
Rob Pudner said: 'If you are successful at the audition stage then a transition will begin for you, as you move away from amateur performance and become a journeyman player and experience being part of a touring company and performing for audiences at outdoor venues across Devon.
'We are looking for 100% commitment — rehearsals will be in the evenings and performances are at the weekend through the summer months.
'There is no payment for the actors but what we can guarantee is a step up the ladder, continued support, out of pocket expenses and expertise and who knows where the individual's own journey will take them!'
Nigel Crabb said: 'For those workshop participants that are not cast in this particular show, there will undoubtedly be other opportunities to work as part of the creative team and this is really just the start. Transitions Theatre Company has other irons in the fire and plans for future productions — it's all very exciting.'
