THIS month's Okehampton and District Local History Society meeting will have a talk by one of the group's own members. Tom Endacott will be talking about 'Changing Times on the Farm'. Five generations of his family have farmed in Throwleigh, and he will be showing slides and speaking about the many changes he has seen in that time and the reasons for them. The meeting is at 7.30pm on Wednesday, June 11 in the Ockment Centre. Last month former archaeologist from the Museum of London Dr Peter Marsden gave an interesting talk on what is known about London and Exeter in both Roman and Saxon times. Next month, David Strange will be speaking about the life and times of astronomer Sir Norman Lockyer, followed a few weeks later by a visit to the Norman Lockyer Observatory in Sidmouth. Meetings of the society are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Ockment Centre. New members are always welcome and anyone interested should contact the secretary, Jane Lehni 01837 840087. Non-members may attend meetings at a charge of £2 per person including coffee and biscuits.
