THE GRAND opening of Callington's long-awaited children's centre will take place on July 5 providing new support groups and services for families in the area. The multi purpose building at Callington Primary School will house a creche and counselling room and will be venue for anti-natal checks, a parent and toddler group, baby weigh-in clinics, parentcraft courses, a breastfeeding group and childminders' support group. Some of the sessions are being relocated from other venues in the town so they can take place all under the same roof but there will be a range of new activities for parents with children up to primary school age. The centre will also act as a signposting service directing people including those with older children to places where they can access help, advice and support. An outreach service may be run in villages without parent and toddler groups and there is a mobile toy library. For information go to www. childcarelink.gov.uk The opening event on July 5 begins at 10.30am and will include stalls, face painting, the fire engine and police van, lots of bugs and other creatures to handle and a school PTA car boot sale will run in association with it.
