A CAREER-best bowling performance by Chris Walsh swung a low-scoring Buckley Cup game between Yeoford and Belstone in the latter?s favour at Rew Meadow. Batting first Belstone struggled to get the ball away against an accurate Yeoford attack which reduced them to 29 for five by the ninth over, with only Wayne Pearce (22) staying long. The score recovered somewhat thanks to an unbroken partnership of 29 between Rob Sandercock (25) and Andrew Hooper (11) which took the 20-over total up to 83 for seven. Belstone struck early. Hooper?s run out of Leach and catch of Phil Dennis, both for ducks - and a slice of luck when Andy Coren (11) stepped back onto his wicket defending a ball from Terry Jeal. Yeoford recovered to reach 48 for three in the 13th over before Walsh began his spell by removing Barlow?s (12) middle stump. Walsh pressed home the attack with wickets in his next two overs, before wrapping up a 17-run Belstone victory when he had Paul Coren well caught on the midwicket boundary by Phil Woods for a hard hit 27. Belstone man-of-the-match was Chris Walsh for his spell of 3.4 overs, five wickets for seven runs. Last Saturday Hampshire tourists Old Eldonians visited Rew Meadow for a high-scoring game. Belstone?s second wicket pair of skipper Andrew Paterson and Chris Walpole came within four runs of setting a new club record for the wicket with a fine partnership of 178 in 25 overs. Paterson completed his maiden century for the club with 13 fours and a six before falling next ball with the score on 191, while Walpole followed 20 runs later having hit 12 boundaries in his 73. Belstone?s total of 236 for five (their seventh highest since the club formed in 1993) began to look threatened as opener Maneesh and Steve Henwood set about their task after coming together at 50 for two. Particularly severe on anything short and benefiting from six dropped catches they kept up with the required run rate throughout a partnership of 144, which ended when Maneesh, having completed his maiden century, was caught on the midwicket boundary for 116. Henwood carried serenely on with Craig Morley (18 not out) to finish with 68 not out as the visitors completed a well judged run chase with eleven balls to spare. Belstone man-of-the-match: Andrew Paterson. The lightning outfield at Paignton yielded another bag load of runs last Sunday when Belstone were the visitors. Aidan Easterbrook?s second ball yorker off opener Baldry quickly became a distant memory as Paignton batsmen Seb Benton (72) and Reese Wyborn (65) put on 113 for the second wicket in just 52 minutes with 20 fours and a six between them. Gary Sizmur?s lively pace (three for 40) clean bowled them both as Paignton declined to 204 for 8, with Chris Gomersall and Phil Dennis also claiming wickets. Belstone then fell apart badly in the field with Andy Kingdon smashing 73 runs as the ninth wicket plundered another 97 in the last ten overs to leave the home team on a formidable 301 for 8 after their 40 overs. Belstone began their reply solidly with Walpole (13) helping a commanding Wayne Pearce to add 81 for the first wicket in 56 minutes. Pearce was second out having made 82 out of 106 from 74 balls in 71 minutes, with 14 boundaries and a six. Scott Tremain, with an elegant 34 off 25 balls, and three sixes from Harry Bushin (39 not out from 22 balls) gave the final total of 236 for nine some respectability. A car boot sale will be held on the Belstone ground this Saturday from 10am.
