YEAR 7 students from Tavistock College recently celebrated harvest festival with a special harvest assembly.
The produce grown at the college by Year 11 and Year 7 horticulture classes was displayed in a hamper by the Year 11 students. The Reverend Chris Hardwick gave a short talk on the meaning of harvest and Tony Welsh, representing Tavistock Foodbank, explained how the foodbank was set up and the help it offers to local people.
Students brought in an amazing amount of produce as donations to the foodbank which, when weighed later, came to 63kgs.
Principal Sarah Jones said: ‘I am extremely proud of the Year 7 students for their contributions. I understand from Tony Welsh that the Year 7 collection was enough to feed 20 people. This is an excellent example of the attention paid to values of solidarity, social responsibility and caring for others that we promote at Tavistock College.’
