A COMMUNITY-minded East Cornwall resident is being sought to take a vacant seat on Calstock Parish Council.
Following the resignation of one of its members, the council is now looking to co-opt a new councillor for the Delaware Ward.
Calstock Parish Council covers Calstock, Delaware, Gunnislake, Harrowbarrow and Chilsworthy and meets regularly for full council and committee meetings.
Parish clerk Sue Lemon said: 'Members are collectively responsible for making council policy, for which they are accountable to the electorate.
'Members are not directly involved in the day-to-day provision of services to the public. This does not of course mean that there should be no contact between members and the clerk on such matters and, indeed, members may often find that they are asked by electors to pursue matters on their behalf.
However, members have no executive authority and will need to deal with all matters either through their collective council membership or in liaison with the clerk concerning a local problem.'
The council is foremost looking for someone who is passionate about their community and where they live and keen to help with the smooth running of the parish. The candidate does not need to live in Delaware, but must live within the parish.
The closing date for applications is July 31 and prospective candidates will be interviewed during the full council meeting on August 5, where a decision will be made.
