TWO Yelverton players won the County Foursomes title at Holsworthy at the weekend. Adam Bridgewater and Ryan Fricker scored 69 in the morning, and 73 in the afternoon to win by five shots. The combination of Ryan's 300 yard drives, and Adam's excellent short game was too good for the remainder of the field. Another Yelverton pair, James Holt and James Smith came third.
The Better Ball Open, played in a medal format, was held at Yelverton Golf Club on one of the finest days of the year. Yelverton members dominated the prizes, but the best visitors score was 67 by Phil Hampton and Paul Roddis from Exminster. Local 'favourites' Chris Gunn and George Frude came in with a superb ten under par score of 61. In second place was Mike Allan and Chris Willis with 62, with Neil Sellick and Peter Bradbury in third place.
The monthly Stableford saw Niven Penprase scoring 43 points to win division one. Steve Collins won division two with 40, Simon Potipher won divison three with 36, and Peter Vallis took division four with 39 — he also won the Butland Trophy for handicaps over 18.
The South West Winter Foursomes competition is due to start next month at Yelverton. This is a popular competition, where amateurs and club pros compete together. Entry forms are available from the club website, or the club secretary.
