A NEW rock band is about to burst onto the live music scene in West Devon ? but they are promising not to don Darkness-style catsuits as they do so. By day, Midlifecrisis are respectable businessmen ? but the self-confessed ?bunch of old rockers? now have a growing crop of gigs, following five months of rehearsals. Guitarist Phil Bowler, of Bratton Clovelly, said the idea for the band came up one night in the pub. ?It was just one of those things ? it turned out we?d all played with different bands in our youth and one night we thought, ?Wouldn?t it be great if we formed a rock band??,? said Phil. ?We are all ageing 40-somethings ? we?re not serious, we know we?re not going to be the next Darkness and we?re not giving up the day jobs, but we?ve been rehearsing for about five months now and word has spread about us and we?re getting a few dates lined up now.? Midifecrisis consists of Phil, guitarist Clive Tayton, Dave Hartnell on drums, new bass player Dave Bowen and singer Trevor Thomas. They are mainly based in the Bratton Clovelly area, with children attending Boasley Cross Primary School. The band play a range of ?glam rock? from the 70s, some Rolling Stones classics, rhythm and blues numbers ? nothing too heavy, said Phil. ?It?s all cover stuff, that seems to be what most people want to hear,? he said.
