DARTMOOR Search and Rescue Team Tavistock have had a busy week.
The team were called to assist the South West Ambulance Service on October 30 in dealing with a 21 year-old male who had fractured his leg in a fall while abseiling in the dark at Foggintor Quarry.
On Friday evening (November 2), many members travelled to Okehampton Army Camp for the start of the annual Group Training Weekend of Dartmoor Rescue Group. Saturday was spent refreshing and developing skills in search techniques, navigation, first aid and rope rescue systems.
Just as members were finishing their evening meal at the camp they were called to assist in the recovery of a walker with a fractured ankle, near Down Tor at Burrator. The transport of the casualty by stretcher to the ambulance at Norsworthy Bridge involved members of the sister teams from Plymouth and Ashburton, who were also attending the training weekend.
Sunday was spent dealing with rescue scenarios amid the snowy landscape of northern Dartmoor.
