IT was a disappointing weekend for Whitchurch.
Following a good season, the Devon League side entered the last game with a small chance of winning the division.
However, defeat by 9 wickets away at Kenn saw them slip to third as other results went against them.
Asked to bat first, they lost wickets at regular intervals, with only batsman of the year Richard Hall making a significant contribution — 43.
Three wickets apiece for Gosling, Chislett and Simpson reduced Whitchurch to 109 all out.
Kenn had little trouble knocking off the runs required. A partnership of 91 between P Murfin (37no) and D Murfin (58no) seeing them to a comfortable victory with 20 overs in hand.
The Tamar league side fared little better away at Cornwood. They managed to dismiss the home team for 98, despite dropping five catches, but were then bowled out for just 57 and that was somewhat of a recovery having been 31 for 7. Horler top scored with 15.
On Sunday, Whitchurch entertained Stoke Gabriel. Tight bowling from Sutton (3 for 17), Walker and Aggiss meant that Stoke were restricted to 159 in their 40 overs. Principal scorers Anstey (61) and Dwyer (31).
Whitchurch were struggling in reply. When heavy rain forced the abandonment they were 56 for 2 off 23 overs, only P Freedman with 23 not out making any headway.
This weekend, the Tamar league side entertain Lewdown on Saturday (2pm start) and on Sunday Philanthropists visit.
