STUDENTS of the Open University from the Okehampton area are celebrating after gaining their degrees and diplomas.
Edna Doswell, 59, of Winkleigh, found difficulty in leaning over books for long periods, so the OU stepped in with all the equipment to help her complete her BSc (Hons) degree. ?They provided the computer, desk and chair. It was brilliant,? said Edna.
She took eight years, with two out, to complete her degree, but picked up diplomas in geography and environmental policies along the way.
She said she was ?absolutely chuffed? to have achieved the degree.
?It?s my 60th birthday this month. If I can do it, anyone can,? she said.
Mrs Susannah Gent, 36, a teaching assistant also from Winkleigh, gained professional development funding from the LEA for some of her Open University courses towards her BSc (Honours) Psychology.
Her first OU tutor was subsequently appointed head teacher of her school.
