WE would like to say a big thank you to the residents of

Callington and the surrounding areas for the terrific

support given to the carnival on Saturday.   Hundreds

turned out to watch and Fore Street was packed. Everyone

entered into the swing of the carnival.

We were delighted to bring the carnival back after an

absence of around 15 years. A lot of hard work involving

several organisations in and around the town took place

but without the support of the public it would not have

been possible.

Thank you also to all the participants who spent hours

preparing their floats, dressing up and taking part in the

parade. Local businesses and shops were generous in

their support and for that we are most grateful. The street

collections took almost £700 which will support local

charities.

Planning will start shortly for the 2009 carnival - we hope

to see you there.

A GREAT big thank you to all the people of Gunnislake,

Callington and district who gave so generously at the

recent annual flag day of the Callington and district

branch of the RNLI.

A record breaking total of £501 was raised towards

helping maintain the vital service the institution provides.

MAY we, through your column, thank the unnamed driver

who had the misfortune to hit and kill our cat, Phoebe, on

the A386 at Blackdown in Mary Tavy on July 12 for their

kindness in checking on her and leaving a detailed note

for us?

Distressing as it was to find her in our neighbour's bank,

we were comforted to know that someone held her and

took the trouble to tell us what had happened and make

sure that we found her body and knew that she did not

suffer.

In a world where too many people do not think of others,

this caring gesture was much appreciated.
