Okehampton residents can now recycle their plastic containers and milk bottle lids to raise money for charity through the Recycle and Raise scheme.
Recycle and Raise is a fundraising initiative set up by Devon Contract Waste Polymers to encourage Devonians to donate their plastic waste to be turned into recycled plastic furniture and fence posts.
As part of the scheme, all proceeds made by the recycling inititive will be donated to charities – this time being Dartmoor Zoo and the mental health charity Mind.
Between now and February 28, Eco Mojo in Red Lion Yard, Okehampton Library and St James Primary School will provide collection points for the plastic waste which the project asks to be thoroughly cleaned before being donated.
In addition, the initiative will accept milk bottle tops all year round.
Last year, Recycle and Raise collected 2,000kg of plastic, which equates to 15,000 tubs and managed to raise £1,200 for Dartmoor Zoo.
This year it has had even greater success, managing to raise £4,000 for Dartmoor Zoo and Mind. The organisation say it hopes to beat that sum in 2022.
Dartmoor Zoo is part of the Dartmoor Zoological Society, a charity which is responsible for animal care, breeding, conservation and research projects in the Dartmoor area.
