STUDENT success was celebrated at Okehampton College on Thursday last week when the college held its annual Major Awards’ Evening.
It proved to be a fantastic event, with the dedication and talent of all of the winners clear from the glowing speeches from college staff.
Many of the awards were presented to members of last year’s Year 13 group, most of whom were back from university on their Christmas break. Other prizes were awarded to students who gained excellent GCSE results last summer.
Okehampton College principal Derrick Brett said: ‘It was fantastic to reflect on the successes of all these amazing students. The hard-working attitudes and the desire amongst these young people to always strive for excellence is something we are very proud of.’
The college also thanked the Okehampton and District Lions’ Club, Okehampton Rotary Club and the Manor House Hotel for their support with the awards event. All three organisations were able to send representatives to present their awards.
In addition, Mr Hammond and Mr Thomas presented awards that they had instigated for Sports Excellence and Technology respectively.
