THE NSPCC visited Bridestowe Primary School on Wednesday last week to make the children aware of the need to speak out about abuse or neglect.
The primary school hosted the children’s charity on November 15 in an effort to give pupils the tools they needed to stay safe.
Assemblies and workshops were delivered to children aged between four and 11 by NSPCC staff and volunteers to teach children how to recognise abuse and who to talk to about it.
The charity’s Speak Out Stay Safe service aims to reach every primary school in the UK, and in the 2016/17 academic year the charity has reached 20,479 children in Devon during 125 school visits.
Colette Hudson, local schools service area co-ordinator, said: ‘It was fantastic to visit Bridestowe, where both Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils were really engaged with our assemblies and workshops.
‘The deliveries are designed to be interactive, fun and age-sensitive while also carrying a very important message — if you have any worries at all, speak to a trusted adult.’
The star of the show was Speak Out, Stay Safe mascot, Buddy — a cuddly green speech bubble.
