A BRAND new waterless toilet has been installed at Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School thanks to the Tesco Bags of Help initiative and Groundwork.
The school was one of three successful organisations to benefit from a grant of £8,000, and chose to use the money to install a ‘woowoo’ in order to aid extended outdoor play and have the opportunity to host outdoor events for the local schools and community.
Headteacher Nicky Pratten said: ‘The woowoo was installed on our school field which had no facilities. Having this on our field now means we can spend longer in the field with outdoor learning, organise and hold events for families and the local communities and other schools.’
A representative from Tavistock Tesco came to cut the ribbon and officially opened the woowoo last Friday, during a successful picnic and Proms in the Park at the field which was organised by Mrs Carowicz.
l Bags of Help is Tesco’s local community grant scheme where the money raised from the 5p bag charge is being used to fund thousands of local projects in communities right across the UK.
Projects that bring benefit to their community will get the green light — these range from improving community buildings and outdoor spaces to buying new equipment, training coaches or volunteers and hosting community events. Administration of local funding is being managed by community charity Groundwork, which specialises in transforming communities and the local environment for the better.
