THREE members of Eggesford Pony Club are celebrating medal success after gaining excellent results at the recent South West Modern Pentathlon championships held at The Grange and Okehampton College.

The youngsters had to compete over five different disciplines — fencing, shooting, running, swimming and showjumping, in a competition which took two days.

Caroline Friend, aged 17, of Okehampton, gained a gold medal in the fencing, silver in the shooting and came in at the silver medal position overall in the competition.

Her younger sister Amanda, 15, won silver in the riding phase.

And Alexander Hepworth, of Wembworthy, was awarded silver medals in the shooting, running and swimming and bronze in the riding. He came fourth overall.

Alex, who is 13, has also just qualified for the national championships to be held later this month.
