ELLA Percival has become the 2011 AJA Junior national champion — in a double triumph for her Okehampton Judo Club.

Ella, although aged 13, fought in the U16s U50kg category at the Amateur Judo Association Championships in Castle Vale, Birmingham - winning all her contests in style by an Ippon!

She will now join the AJA English national squad and represent them internationally in Mierlo, Holland latest this month..

At the same time fellow club member Aidan Bostock won the BJC Junior National Championships for the second time!

Aidan, 15, won the under 65kg group in 2010 but entered the open weight category this year and utilised great skill to overcome much bigger opponents at the British Judo Council U16s nationals in Hereford. Aidan is ranked third in Great Britain at U66kg in the U17s category by British Judo and his details are being held by the British Olympic Association.

Both Ella and Aidan train three times a week at high performance Tamar Judo Centre in Saltash.

Aidan's father Darren, who runs the OJC, was delighted with their efforts.

He added: 'Judo is a great way for children to build self confidence, control and respect. We teach traditional Judo and its values and welcome visitors of all grades and organisations into our Dojo.'
