A JOURNEY through the history of Shilstone House and its grounds is the subject of a new exhibition on show at the Devon Rural Archive from now until March 7.

Open Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11am and 3pm, 'A Journey Through Time' uses old photographs and previously unseen historical documents and archaeological artefacts to guide visitors through the Shilstone landscape from the Neolithic to the present day.

Entry to the exhibition is free.

Recently developed, the former Domesday manor house of Shilstone, near Modbury, now a family home and an exclusive wedding venue, is surrounded by formal gardens with lawns, terraces and a medieval walled garden.

Its remarkable history possibly dates back to Neolithic times and the 500 acre estate contains an array of architectural and archaeological features representing almost 6,000 years of human endeavour.

Established in 2006, the Devon Rural Archive, based on the Shilstone Estate, provides a much needed historical and archaeological resource for the people of Devon.
