Okehampton Argyle 3rds . . 3
Lapford . . . . . . . . . . . .2
OKEHAMPTON kept their discipline and claimed victory with a fine goal in extra time from Scott Ditchburn, which broke the 2-2 deadlock. Justice was done and the better team won, leaving the lads feeling buoyant after a couple of decisions against them in the second half.
Argyle built on last week's experience. The back four, who held strong towards the end of last week's match, started competently. Hall and Ladd put their experience to good use, and encouraged Richard Eddy and Yelland to put in one of their best performances. Playing a little deeper, Eddy made many strong and effective challenges. Jackson, in goal, took control at the back, coming out with perfect timing to remove threats on goal effectively.
Returning from injury, Monnox was a welcome addition, playing on the left.
He and Spence on the right made many strong runs from deep which constantly worried the Lapford defence. The wingers provided a width to the game, which in turn created plenty of space for the midfield. Kinsey and Evans wove their way forward, and Griffiths marshalled the team well, distributing the ball with precision to his teammates.
Okehampton took the lead after 9 minutes when Griffiths launched a long throw to Kinsey, who slotted the ball neatly past the keeper.
Kinsey's second goal of the match came early in the second half, when a move involving Ladd, Monnox, Evans and Spence allowed him to shoot home a rebound. Lapford scored their first goal from the penalty spot, and their second was also somewhat controversial.
Many of the Argyle team ran themselves into the ground, providing an opportunity for substitutes Luxton and W Eddy.
Man of the match: Steve Kinsey.
