FINGLE Glen Golf Club won the coveted Palairet Memorial Trophy at Saunton GC in North Devon after just edging out the experienced Staddon Heights side in the final on Sunday. Harold Cook, their captain, commended his team for the supreme effort made on the day. Fingle Glen GC was affiliated to the DCGU in 1990 so it would be safe to say the it is the youngest club ever to win the trophy and at the first attempt as well! The trophy is open to all clubs in Devon and is the one they all want to win with some 42 clubs taking part in this year?s event. The final was a close thing ? and it all went down to the last match on the 18th when Luke Burchell of Fingle Glen just ousted his opponent from Staddon Heights on the last put by Luke Burchell of Fingle Glen. His victory meant Fingle Glen took the trophy after beating Statton Heights (near Plymouth) by three to two.
