THE crew from Yelverton Fire Station presented a cheque for £860 to the Yelverton and District Friends Group of the Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) recently.

Every April the firefighters are able to propose and vote for a charity to raise money for. The chosen charity for the past year was CHSW and the money was raised by donations to the station, car washes and the fire station’s annual charity hog roast.

Any money raised by the station throughout the year is divided equally between the Fire Fighters’ Charity and the chosen charity.

Fire Fighters from Yelverton were joined by four members of the friends’ group for CHSW and firefighter Alan Brown, who proposed the charity, was able to present the cheque to Carole Portlock, treasurer (pictured above).

The fire crew also congratulated the members of the friends’ group who themselves raised a massive £14,700 for the children’s hospice which this year celebrated its 25th year

This year’s chosen charity for Yelverton Fire Station will be Elsa’s Journey, a fund to support CLIC Sargent.
