PEOPLE are being given the chance to find out about eleven new affordable houses for rent being built in the West Devon town of North Tawton.

The eight two-bedroom and three three-bedroom properties in Barkers Way are currently under construction with the first homes expected to be ready in early autumn.

West Devon Borough Council is holding an awareness event on Saturday, September 7 at North Tawton Town Hall from 10am to noon, where people can get details of how to apply for one of the new properties.

All applicants need to be registered with Devon Home Choice so the event is a chance for people to make sure they are on the list.

Floor plans will also be available so potential tenants can get a feel for what the new homes will look like inside.

Planning permission for the houses was granted in December 2012 and construction began in January this year.

DCH (formerly known as Devon and Cornwall Housing) is the owner and landlord of the development which is being built by Devon-based, SES Construction.

West Devon Borough Council and North Tawton Town Council worked together to secure a legal agreement so people with a strong connection to North Tawton will be given priority as tenants followed by those with connections to the adjoining parishes of Bondleigh, Sampford Courtenay and South Tawton.

The homes will be advertised through Devon Home Choice from Wednesday, September 11.
