THE communities of Meeth, Merton and Huish have said thank you to their long-serving postman Bernard Knight, who retires later this month.
Bernard, who lives in Okehampton, has worked as a postman for more than 40 years, spending 20 of those years serving Meeth, Merton and Huish.
2015 will be the last year Bernard has to deal with the rush of Christmas cards and presents being delivered throughout December, as he hangs up his delivery sack on December 24.
In recognition of Bernard’s service and to celebrate his friendly, dedicated and helpful approach, a collection was held in the three communities and a card was given to Bernard at a surprise presentation at the Clinton School in Merton on November 25. Children from the school also presented Bernard with a special card they had produced.
Bernard was also very surprised to see some of his family turn up along with many residents he has been delivering to for so long to thank him and wish him a long and happy retirement.
